Devil Embrace Devil Duology Catherine Coulter 9780451200266 Books

I have such missed feelings about this novel. I enjoy dark novels, and I enjoy sadistic male heroes. I gave the novel three stars because it was difficult to understand his motivations. Coulter really should have fleshed out more the reason behind his feelings for her. Instead, we, the reader, are treated to one line explanations like 'I saw you you weren't as fickle as your mom, so I wanted you'. That's it. No insight at all into his mind or heart or feelings. Nothing to make him human at all. She did not make him very empathetic at all. I did not like him. He was simply a smug, raping guy who, as many other reviewers said, had a skewed vision. Cassie was strong enough, if a little dense. I did not like how she suddenly made the girl's fiance to be priggish to make the main guy more likable--it fell flat. She should rewrite it.

Devil Embrace Devil Duology Catherine Coulter 9780451200266 Books Reviews

As advertised.
It's not a romantic story at all. He is controlling and abusive. I always read to the end on all me reads but I had a hard finishing this one.
Coulter is a favorite author no matter whether it is FBI or Historical romance. This is the second time to read these two books but enjoyed them again.
I would never recommend this book to anyone. It was hard to finish. Rape is unacceptable and I am disgusted.
im usually a big fan of catherine coulters books but this book just left me speechless and disgusted. beyond what the character had to handle from the so-called hero, the rape scene just was inexcusable. i didnt and dont understand what went through coulters head when she decided to put such a brutal and descriptive gang rape--it left me nauseous and disturbed.

i was, and am, incredibly disappointed in coulter for this book. honestly when i first read the scene i was waiting for the hero to come to the rescue because it was truly too unbelievably vile. i shudder that coulter made use of such a terrible topic in her novel, something that shouldnt be talked about to sell books.
A great book. Have it in paperback and was thrilled to find it for kindle. have read it several times. Loved the characters and their love story.
***spoilers***

I did not like this book at all. I read this book about a year ago. This is the only Catherine Coulter book I've ever read and I'm not likely to care much about reading another one in the future to be honest. Cassie is in love with her childhood sweetheart, but the day before their wedding Cassie is out on her yacht and Lord Anthony kidnaps her and heads to Italy. He informs her that she is going to be his bride and doesn't give her any choice in the matter. He's old enough to be her father and she tells him she doesn't want to marry him. He was in love with her mother once upon a time (although they were apparently never intimate). Anyways, he doesn't give her an option about having sex with him or anything really. He wasn't the worst hero that's for sure but I just really didn't like him. Meanwhile Cassie goads him into beating her like a man, like a member of his crew, one time when she disobeyed him on the ship. She makes it clear she's only accepting this "discipline" from the Captain of the ship, not himself as a man. He doesn't want to beat her because, well, she's a woman and also he thought he would have mutiny on his hands if he did. But, since she insists, he beats her anyways. He threatens a spanking several times in the book but he never does that. Instead, he just beats her like a man. How awful. Then when she's giving birth at the end him and a member (a male member) of his crew are the only ones present (that's apparently the way she wants it to be as she's pleased as punch that the doctor broke his leg and couldn't come). On top of that, she's scared she'll die in childbirth like her mother did so Anthony tells her if she doesn't give birth already he will- surprise, surprise- beat her! I mean, come on! This is not to mention the disgusting details of the gang rape in the middle of the book where she loses the first baby and is ripped to shreds. This book was awful. I would have been OK with her getting a spanking or something but NOT with her constantly insisting to be treated like a man the way she was and Anthony actually giving in to treat her that way. The gang rape was a tragedy and certainly wasn't portrayed as though she "enjoyed" it or something. I'm not really taking points off for the fact that that scene was in the book but it was vulgar and crude in my opinion. I just really didn't like this book.
