The previous female leads in the first three books are likeable, tough, independent and feisty. Zoe Lane is aloof, detached, and it's hard to feel sympathetic towards her. I wanted to feel badly for her when she was dealing with her issues, I wanted to feel more badly when she was going through her complicated feelings for Hayden and Rhys, but honestly? She is not very likeable. From the first few pages from the book which were taken from her diary written in her childhood, it isn't hard to figure out that she really loves Rhys, and she's in the worst case of denial ever. She is regarded as an ice queen and with good reason too! She doesn't believe she's beautiful, which does make a small case for being empathetic, but she just absolutely has no idea about her own feelings. I wanted to like her, but I wound up wanting to hit her with the very book I was reading multiple times. While I liked this book, I have to say Abe fell short by a great deal. By the time I even felt like I could care about Zoe, the book was over. Did I enjoy the book? Yes, there are some very vivid and beautiful descriptions, but my biggest problems are there are characters who are named, introduced, then dropped in short order. Who is and why should I care about Basille Cote? He shows up once, and never again. But I do have to say I love Rhys, his unique ability (which I won't spoil) makes for a very entertaining read. He makes up for the disappointing female character of Zoe Lane. This book is well written, but the character development is weak in several areas. I would still suggest reading it to continue on the awesome Drakon series, but don't expect to admire or like the female lead right off.

The Treasure Keeper Shana Abe 9780553806854 Books Reviews
I just finished the Treasure Keeper (had pre-ordered it on my 2, and it came right on time!). I highly recommend it. I thought it was wonderful. I actually liked it better than the third in the series, Queen of Dragons - more satisfying in some way. The relationship between the H/H was so interesting and the secondary characters were strong. I do believe you need to have read the other three books in the series to understand the nuances of the book, but for fans of the Drakon series I think this is definitely a keeper. Kudos to you Ms. Abe. Can hardly wait for the next in the series!
This book arrived as described and promptly. It was in new condition. I had had a copy of this book and it was lost, so I was thrilled to find s new copy to replace it in my collection.
Each book dwelt with different main characters, with threads from the earlier stories. Abes' writing is very descriptive which makes the stories all the more interesting.
Book four of this series I found to be enjoyable...not quite as much as the last one but it was good.
I always like a book when the female is strong willed and gifted and strong.
I loved how the male dragon was appearing to Zoe as a ghost..kept me interested. A lot of excitment at the end and prepared us for book five.
I think IM going to put book five "Time Weaver" aside for awhile and give myself a break from dragons. I'll eventually pick it up and finish this series...it was worth the read.
It's a fantasy! It's a romance! It's a Mystery!
Come meet the shapeshifting Drakons (human to smoke to dragon and back) and those who love and hate them.
The Treasure Keeper can be read as a standalone book but it definitely is better to have read the previous three books (The Smoke Thief, The Dream Thief, and the Queen of Dragons). The culture of the Darkfrith drakon has created unintended consequences. Each book introduces us to Drakon women who are both highly intelligent and have great amounts of determination and without whom the Darkfrith Drakon will surely fall to the equally determined and fierce enemy in their midst.
Here we meet Zoe Lane and reacquaint ourselves with Lord Rhys Langford. Both are headstrong, loyal and hardheaded. Neither realizes just how much they love one another until it may be too late. One impediment amongst several is the fact she's engaged to marry someone else entirely. Someone she's broken a number of Drakon laws to find. Shana Abe writes a book that makes us care for Zoe and Rhys allowing us to feel their doubts, their love and their gifts and root ferverently that they will be able to overcome what appear to be obstacles designed to keep them separated forever.
Shana also raises the curtain a bit and lets us see the enemy then lets it fall back into place. Clues about the last book have been scattered throughout the first four books. Careful readers can pick up on them and begin to put all the pieces together. I'm absolutely on pins and needles while waiting for the fifth and final book to be completed to see if I read the clues properly.
Not as great as the other three in the series. The book was a bit disjointed, and actually felt like an installment for the finale (which it is). I'm giving it three stars again because I seriously love the premise, even if I wasn't as invested with Zee and Rhys as I was with the other main characters.
I have some other challenges with this as well.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
1. There's a relatively obvious and jarring retcon in the novel Hayden tells Zee that he's been communicating with the Council the entire time, yet in the previous book, when they don't hear back from him, Kim and the Council actually worry about Zee and how she would feel about his possible death.
2. I'm assuming Zee is the Treasure Keeper. Why?
3. If Rhys has been in love with Zee this entire time, then why was he obsessed with Mari (in the previous book)?
4. What the heck's happened to Lia and Zane? We know they're involved, but how come they weren't in Paris, especially considering Rez was clearly using it as her headquarters?
5. Where the HECK are Rue and Christoff?? We know they've left the shire to help, but where the heck are they?? Why aren't THEY in Paris?
I just didn't feel like this novel was organized/thought-out as well as the others.
