The Viking Chosen The Clan Hakon Series Quinn Loftis Books

I already knew I had a thing for highlanders but really - a Viking now too?

I am a big fan of books that are narrated by both male and female narrators. It gives the story an entirely new level of depth and you really get a feel for the characters. Both Chris Ciulla and Andrea Emmes brought the characters to life with their narrating. I loved Torben's character so much because he's this strong warrior, but he does everything he can to protect Allete. And you could hear that in the way Chris portrayed him. As for Allete, I think it's amazing how anyone can so successfully speak with an accent that is not their own native language. Andrea nailed this one - I had to ask her if this was her native accent.

That ending - wow, what a cliffhanger! The ending definitely had me wishing I had my hands on a copy of the second book (which, unfortunately doesn't release until Winter 2018).

I am completely in love with this cover! It's elegant. The woman and her dress shows how refined and proper Allete's character is, while the title font leads to a viking / warrior-ish feel. I liked the symbols added in there because they really gave it the magic feel that comes from Allete (and Torben's mom) being a seer. It all pulls together and looks amazing!

How about the characters? Let's start with the King of Tara - Cathal. I don't think I have ever despised a character more! He is horrible! The man basically wants Allete to dress like a prostitute in the royal court so he can parade her around. And the way he treats her - he enjoys tormenting her so he can "break her". If he were standing on the edge of a cliff, there's a fair chance I would push him over, myself! I am praying he gets what's coming to him in the second book.

Allete - eldest English princess, betrothed / engaged to a pig of a king. She's strong, she's refined, she's protective of her family. She's basically willing to sacrifice her own happiness to keep Cathal from doing anything bad to her family. That takes bravery. And when you put her and Torben together - oh, what a love story!

Hilda. Seer and also Torben's mom. This woman was hilarious. She holds her tongue for no one. I am eager to see how her character plays out in the second book. She's definitely one of my favorites :)

Magnus - Jarl of Clan Hakon. Another crazy man! His plans are all half-baked and as the book progresses, he gets more insane. And the end! He needs to get what's coming to him, as well. Just saying.

Torben. If ever there was a book boyfriend to steal my heart, Torben, it is you. He is the perfect hero of the story - strong, yet able to love and be kind. He's not too macho but he will do anything in his power to protect Allete. And I have a feeling he is going to be the one giving Cathal what he deserves. Just a hunch :)

I loved so much of this book and it has introduced me to yet another branch of historical fiction that I will be diving into. The narration and the story come together perfectly to make this one a top read of 2018!

The Viking Chosen The Clan Hakon Series Quinn Loftis Books Reviews

I’d hoped the author would have made a serious, or even somewhat serious, attempt to use period appropriate vocabulary, behavior, lifestyle, customs, etc. Nope. This is just a childish, ridiculously construed love story set in Viking times. It could have been modern England or America by the vocabulary, behavior of characters, etc. if you like that kind of story, you’ll like this one. If you enjoy a more mature, thoughtfully written novel, this is not for you.
A prophecy spoken, known by few, important to so many.
The son of an Oracle Torben, head's off on his quest too win over princess Allete. The one prophesied to be his bride. Only to fall in love himself, and he'll do anything to be with her.
She is betrothed to an arrogant, mean, man who hurts her, but her duty to marry him, form an alliance to save her kingdom and people, is strong. So, she tries to suffer in silence. However Torben can see she's being hurt and it kills him, not to kill this pompous ass of a King where he stands, but he has to bide his time.
Meanwhile, Torben and Princess Allete get to know each other, stealing time together whenever possible and become more too each other than they ever imagined, or even thought possible. There love is so pure and perfect, it's a pleasure reading about it. The book is not all, pleasure and perfect love. There's ugliness, lying, cruelty.
Towards the end, Princess Allete ends up getting kidnapped along with her younger sister Dayna. You won't believe who takes them, but Torben and his men have quite a fight ahead of them. Let's hope Torben is up to the task after being injured badly.
Little do the kidnappers know, but Princess Allete is not without skills of her own, nor is her sister Dayna a shrinking violate. She is full of fire, brave and has quite a mouth on her.
This book is great, the love that's grown between Allete and Torben, is sweet, pure and passionate.
This whole book is written with passion, from somewhere deep in the heart. Believe me, I hardly told you anything about what happens in this book, so much happens. It's written so well, with everything coming together perfectly and reads so smoothly. I was transfixed on this book. It does end with with a cliffhanger, so to find out how thing's end you'll have to read the next book. But if there were 10 book's, everyone of them would be worth reading. Author Quinn Loftis is magic when it comes to writing, truly magic. I've read other books by this Author and all have been amazing, I don't think you can go wrong with this Author. This book is really a must read, your heart will just sing, open and take it all in. Yet don't get me wrong it's not mushy, it's just quality writing that draws us in. It also has funny parts, that sister Dayna is a wild one.
You really don't want to miss out on this story. All of you Author Quinn Loftis lovers, you know what I mean. Excellent, quality writing that doesn't disappoint.

I received this ARC from the Author, however the review I did on my own and is my opinion after reading the book.
This started out good but then as I got more into it , I was disappointed in how much it referred back to the Grey wolves series, blood bonding soul string, mates, and the souls can talk to each other feel each other , I was really hoping for something different. But you have the sisters who are close 3 sisters and one acts like Jen from gws. Too many references are made and sound like gws. Gws was a fantastic series, but it does not belong in this series, these are people not wolves and once you reference the gws, to me I feel very disappointed because I was looking forward to something new from this author.
This book had absolutely no character development. The characters were already at the peak of their stereotype on page one.
Also, even though I can deal with some anachronisms in historical fiction, this had so many it completely threw off my suspension of disbelief.
It was a chore to read all the way through, but I don't leave reviews if I haven't completed the book.
My greatest pet peave, no ending. You are left hanging for the next installment.
